Today is my second governmentally-significant birthday.
Back in 1974 when I celebrated my 21st (on the 21st!) legality loomed large. Many personal milestones followed, but who considers the government when huffing to extinguish 30 or even 50 candles?
But at sixty-five – and running up to it? The government is in one’s face! Sign up for Medicare, figure out your supplemental plan, make decisions about Social Security, yadda, yadda, yadda. It’s a governmentally-significant birthday.
So why have I been thinking back to my grade school birthdays and the sweet treats Mom would bake for me to share with my classmates? And do I remember the birthday gifts I received as a child? A few maybe. But the cupcakes Mom used to back in ice cream cones? I remember those vividly!
And I remember how special I felt as I passed out those cupcakes. These were my friends, and my birthday gave me an excuse to give them something special.
I grabbed onto that excuse again today – offering a free Kindle promotion for my novel Come Back. The promo extends from today – Friday 2/23, my sweet treat to friends and friends of friends.
I wish I could send you all a cupcake too, and all the sweetness you could stand!
